KSA Conference and AGM 17 to 19 June 2022.
This is going to be such an exciting Conference........
– partly because it has been such a long time since most of our members have been able to meet but also because we have such a variety of speakers.
We have kept prices to the absolute minimum (£15pp) to make it affordable for as many of you as possible. However, if you would like to attend but can’t afford to come, please contact us: vicechair@ksa-uk.net
Do have a look at our draft programme for ‘in-person’ delegates and ‘virtual’ delegates.
To book see below.
We are delighted to have Mr. Tet Yap, who is lead urologist at the KS Clinic at Guy’s Hospital in London. He and some of his team will be telling us about very important research which the clinic are engaged in – with the help of many of our members – and about a brand new initiative which the KSA are helping to fund!
We are delighted that Mr. Yap will be joining us in person and will be running workshops on Saturday afternoon. The other members of his team will be presenting virtually.
Jenny Retzler
On Sunday we have something completely new – actress and comedian, Susan Earl, will be holding a fun workshop to help build confidence and overcome anxiety. I met Susan at the last Activity Weekend and she is a lovely lady with a wicked sense of humour and she knows a lot about the effects of KS/XXY because her teenage son is XXY.
Tet Yap
Many of you know that KS/XXY folk can find life difficult because their memories are poor, they find it difficult to organise themselves and often they seem to be slower at picking up new information. All of this is down to Executive Function disorder and we will have Dr. Jenny Retzler, an expert on EF explaining more about it – and how to improve outcomes. Jenny will be running two workshops on Saturday afternoon – one for parents and one for KS/XXY adults. This is an aspect of KS/XXY which we haven’t really looked at before and is, I think, one of the biggest problems our guys face.
Susan Earl
Professor Surya Munro
We are delighted to welcome Professor Surya Munro and Adeline Berry who have made it possible for us to hold our Conference at such a great venue. We are very grateful to them and delighted that they will be telling us a little about their work.
In recent years Professor Monro has collaborated with intersex people including KSA members, academics, and other stakeholders in doing research about the issues affecting intersex people and those with variations of sex characteristics.
Together with Adeline and others she is working on a new book provisionally titled ‘A Critical Introduction to Intersex Studies: Intersex, Variations of Sex Characteristics, and DSD.’
Adeline Berry
Quality of Life in Adult Males with Klinefelter's Syndrome.
This important research which Brien Mehmet is working on will involve members of the KSA. It is likely to highlight again the importance of early diagnosis.
Brien hopes to recruit some candidates at the Conference. I’m sure many of you will be happy to help!
There will be loads of time built in to the weekend for socialising, comparing notes, learning and having fun.
Friday Night Get-together
This is a great way of starting off the Conference weekend
The KSA realises that many delegates travel long distances to attend the Conference often arriving on Friday night so, rather than sitting in our hotel room watching TV, we all meet for a drink, a chat and, if you want, something to eat. It is all very informal but is a great way to meet other delegates before the actual Conference begins.
The Aspley is close to the University and has parking.
Arrive from 7.00 pm and ask for the KSA.
If you have any questions, please contact vicechair@ksa-uk.net
