Treatment
Unfortunately it is often incorrectly assumed that testosterone is the only treatment available or required for KS/XXY adults.
Most adults will never receive genetic counselling or any psychological support following a diagnosis of KS/XXY.
Depression is common.
Many adults suffer from sleep apnoae because of poor muscle tone.
Few are ever given any support with weight management which is often a prolem for KS/XXY people.
Many are never offered DEXA scans to check bone density.
It is extremely rare for them to be offered screening for breast cancer despite their risk being substantially higher than other males.
There is, however, a greater awareness of increased risk of diabetes and of potential fertility options.
If testosterone levels are below the normal range hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is typically prescribed.
